Hints and Tips:
  • Although the degree name is Flinders University, we work in a strong partnership with CDW Studios. You will always have CDW options in your template, whichever stream you choose.
  • Write the CV and do not worry if there is not much in it. We do not expect you to have worked in industry.
  • Make certain that you submit your portfolio, we cannot consider your application if you do not submit the portfolio.  Put your best work in the portfolio, don’t worry if you do not have the maximum number of pieces.  Some will have more, some less.  Give us somewhere between 5 – 20 pieces of your work.  Do not give us original work.  Do not be afraid to try to get in, we are looking at many aspects of your work.
  • Always put the degree that you most want to get into first in your ranking, then at ranking 2 or 3 put in a degree that you are confident that you will get into.

Questions? Email [email protected]

For those who do not get an ATAR of 60, we have a strong pathway with Game Art at TAFE SA, we also have a Foundation Program.  Contact Admissions at Flinders if you need advice on alternate pathways.

  • Do the 12 week classes/subjects change each semester?

The CDW Studios classes are always subject to change each term. This is due to our instructors being industry professionals and can only teach within their schedules. Although most of the core subjects stay the same throughout, all classes are always subject to availability in each term.

Classes will generally be available in each term but the days and times they run can sometimes change, again due to when instructors are available.

  • Can I take out a payment plan?

A $200 deposit must be paid in advance and the course should be paid off by the course starts.

  • Am I able to receive a qualification or a certificate when I finish my course?

Only if you study the 3 Year Full Time Bachelor of Creative Arts (Digital Media) with Flinders University.

You can sign up as a private participant of classes. This means that you would be signing up to do unaccredited training and would be hoping to improve your portfolio. Because CDW is a private school - not an RTO, we cannot give out accreditation.

Our foundation courses are open to everyone to apply to, but our advanced courses require a portfolio in order to do them.

  • What happens if a course is full?

Simply request to put your name on the waitlist for the course, by emailing [email protected]

  • Can international students apply for study and what options are available?

As a full time student through Flinders University studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts in Digital Media. This means you would apply through Flinders University as an international student. You can do this at any time and there is information available on how to do this via the Flinders course page which is here: BCA (DM) page

You can register for classes as a private student. This means that you would be signing up to do unaccredited training and would be hoping to improve your portfolio. Because CDW is a private school - not an RTO, we cannot give out accreditation, so it is not recognised for a student Visa. Students currently have been able to study at CDW Studios on a 90 day tourist visa but now the course is longer than 90 days so being able to stay in Australia for the duration of the course may be difficult.

If you take the option to study as a private student, our courses are purely focused on foundation skill training and portfolio development. You would be able to do as many courses as you can manage. Our foundation courses are open to everyone to apply to, but our advanced courses require a portfolio in order to do them. This should feature 5-20 pieces of your most recent work showing us what you would like to focus on.

  • Does CDW Studios offer scholarships?

Currently CDW Studios doesn't offer scholarships for study.

  • How old does my child need to be to do a 12-week short course at CDW Studios?

For the 12-week short courses as a private student, we recommend students be at least 15 years of age.

For holiday workshops, students should be at least 13 years old.

  • What career opportunities come from studying with CDW Studios?

We have had students that have gone on to working as concept artists, 3D modellers and texture artists, 3D sculptors, illustrators and many other fields for studios such as Rising Sun Pictures, Animal Logic, Vishus Productions, Monkeystack and Chocolate Liberation Front. Our courses are designed to help you figure out which pathway you would like to take and then customise your course outline to cater to that pathway.

In general, a job referral is something that must be earned through hard work, strong portfolio, and showing great professional attitude in day to day behaviour.
