3D Animation 2
Prerequisite: 3D Animation 1.
Overview: Introduction to 3D Animation in Maya, which then progresses into more complex actions.
During this 12-week workshop, you will learn some of the fundamental principles of animation with an emphasis on how to make that process creative and fun. Classes will be covering universal animation concepts like “keyframes”, “timing and spacing”, “overlapping action”, as well as the more general storytelling and acting performance skills plus the software skills needed in Maya.
Each week you will watch a demo of the instructor animating live, you are welcome to animate along with the instructor and ask questions. After each class you will receive your homework assignment for the week, and at the beginning of each class you will receive feedback on your work.

- Introduction to Maya
- Universal principles of Animation
- Blocking and timing
- Using reference
- Creating animation from scratch
- Creating polished animation
The hardware requirements for the workshop are:
- Laptop (MacBook Pro or i7 PC laptop with 16GB RAM are recommended).
- Wacom tablet or Mouse. Any size is good.
- Notepad and pens/pencils for note-taking.
Instructor Bio: Joe Helmore
Joe Helmore is an experienced 3D animator with five years of tertiary education including a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design and a Diploma of 3D Animation. As a character animator, he has worked for Assembly LTD, Animal logic, Fuel VFX, Mighty Nice, Plastic wax and Blockhead VFX. He knows what it takes to be an industry professional and is keen to pass on his knowledge to hungry artists!
